1.課程簡介Course Introduction
New generation has been handed an opportunity: the opportunity to change the story of our culture from one of blind consumption to one of conscious ecological living. As individuals, as a society and as a species, we are facing challenges related to sustainability including economic stability, social justice, resource depletion and waste management, biodiversity preservation, climate adaptation and food and agricultural resilience. In this interdisciplinary course, students will learn how to seize this opportunity by working with peers to research and understand how sustainability in different contexts presents solutions to many of these challenges facing modern society. “Sustainability Adventures in Wonderland” will provide a lens from which you can critically examine the events, patterns, systems and paradigms that shape our society and our experience as individuals living within it. Also students who take this course will practice environmental movement and develop an individual project to act as an environmentalist and help to promote sustainable development goals.
Unit 1: Three E’s” of sustainability: environment, economy and social equity (15 min)
Unit 2: Sustainability movement (15 min)
Unit 3: Community engagement and sustainable development (15 min)
Unit 4: Local action, global impact (15 min)
Unit 5: Sustainometric: How do we measure sustainability? (15 min)
Unit 6: Careers in sustainability (15 min)
Assignment 1: Forum posts - create one original post related to three E’s” of sustainability: environment, economy and social equity in a social media platform which is publicly available, and respond to at least one of the peers’ post.
Assignment 2: Reading and reflection– Students will read the provided article (or alternatively watch the provided movie) and write one page of reflection (feedback) to the provided material.
Assignment 3: Term Project: Partner with an organization or community in hometown to provide at least 2hrs of service that contributes to the sustainability of the society.
Assignment 4: Each student should produce a short film documenting their experience, the community members’ feedback and how it may impact long term sustainability when they were conducting community service term project for the previous unit.
Assignment 5: Students will practice calculating their household carbon footprint as a sustainability metrics and will share their interpretation on their sustainability performance.
Assignment 6: Course feedback and future perspective (initiating a personal holistic goal to contribute in future sustainability).

1. Forum posts - create one original post related to the course content in a social media platform which is publicly available, and respond to at least one of the peers’ post.
2. Service learning team project – partner with an organization or community in hometown to provide at least 2hrs of service that contributes to the sustainability of the society. Each student should produce a short film documenting their experience, their mission and how it impacts sustainability. Once done, the short film (less than 10 min) must be uploaded in YouTube and its link will be shared in publicly available social media by the last week of the semester.
3. Reading and reflection– Students will read the provided article (or alternatively watch the provided movie) and write a 1-2 page response (feedback) to the provided material.
“Forum posts”, and “Service learning project” are essential parts of grading and required to pass the course. Others will be considered as supplementary materials for performance evaluation.
Those who fulfill all assignments and evaluation requirements successfully, will receive an
“Honorary Certificate of Sustainability Hero”.
